It is important to always be on time for your interview, if you are going to be
late due to extenuating circumstances, contact your consultant before your scheduled
interview time. Your handshake is one of the easiest ways to give a good impression
on interviewers, so ensure that you give a firm but not overbearing handshake upon
introduction. Whilst answering questions be confident in your responses, but also
remember your common courtesies, and be sure not to use slang or inappropriate language.
Behavioural Interviewing
Behavioural interview techniques are often used to ascertain a potential candidates
behaviour in previous positions when encountering a specific situation or event.
There are several techniques that can be used in these interviews in order to ensure
that you answer the question thoroughly, getting as much information as possible
across.
One simple to remember technique is the CAR Technique
C
is for Circumstance
This is where you explain the situation that you found yourself in, it is important
to explain how the situation came about and what the task or project is that you
were asked to complete. This is also a good opportunity to explain any problems
that arose in order to later show your problem solving ability.
A
is for Action
In the action section of your response, run through the actions you took and how
you went about completing the task given to you, or the circumstance you found yourself
in. Make sure you highlight the solutions you developed to solve any problems. Ensure
that you focus on the actions that you took as opposed to other members of your
team, although be sure to mention their actions if it was a direct result of your
supervision.
R
is for Result
This is the most important part of your response. Tell the interviewer the result
of the action you took and how you achieved the desired outcome for the task.
